With the FTA estimating that over 60% of HGVs in London aren’t currently compliant with the new DVS standard, leading fleet and vehicle safety solutions specialist CameraMatics have launched a one stop Direct Vision Safe-System Package.

From October, trucks over 12 tonnes gross vehicle weight entering or operating in Greater London need a valid HGV Safety Permit as part of the Direct Vision Standard (DVS). Vehicles not reaching the required standard will be banned from the Greater London area.

Created to improve the safety of all road users, by improving the driver’s visibility from the cab, the DVS has been developed in order to address the high number of collisions in London involving HGVs and people walking and cycling. The scheme will cover Greater London and be enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week 24 hours a day. Contravening the ban will be subject to a fine.

“We welcome all moves to improve road safety, but we’re also aware that the clock is ticking and fleet and logistics managers across the country are losing sleep over ensuring that their vehicles are compliant with the new Direct Vision Standard”, said CameraMatics Technical Director, Steve Warne. “This doesn’t just affect London-based firms but any HGV entering the Greater London area. To make life easy we’ve put together a one-stop Direct Vision Safe-System bundle which enables a vehicle to be fully fitted out and compliant in one go.”

The CameraMatics DVS Safe-System package comprises everything needed for a zero-starred vehicle to receive a permit. This comprises the technical aspects of cameras, sensors, alerts and an in-cab monitor as well as the Class V and VI Mirrors, side under-run protection and safety stickers. Enhanced and Super-enhanced packages are also on offer for those who want to further enhance vehicle safety.

“With many years of experience in the fleet industry, multiple awards for fleet safety and having helped hundreds of fleets become FORS compliant in our role as FORS Associates” says Warne, “our experts are no strangers to helping fleets with safety compliance and we look forward to the new DVS Safe-System package helping the many thousands of non-compliant vehicles.
