Elliot Shaw, Executive Director of Strategy and Planning at Highways England, is set to address 1,200 delegates at the Microlise Transport Conference in May.

Highways England is the government-owned company that operates, maintains and enhances England’s 4,300 miles of motorways and major A-roads, which carry two-thirds of the country’s freight.

During the conference address at what has become Europe’s largest road transport conference, taking place on the 15th May at The Ricoh Arena in Coventry, Shaw will outline the technological advances being made by Highways England. He will also discuss how the organisation is working closely with its various customers – including the haulage sector – to deliver a road network that is safe, reliable, and meets the country’s changing needs.

England’s strategic road network is essential to the UK haulage sector,” commented Shaw. “I am looking forward to engaging with hauliers and fleet operators at the Microlise Transport Conference, to highlight how Highways England is working to deliver safe and reliable roads.

Our strategic road network is arguably the biggest and single most important piece of infrastructure in the country, and is at the core of our national transport system. Its many arteries connect our major towns and cities, ensure commuters make it to work every day, connect businesses with their suppliers and customers, and help millions of us visit our friends and families. By working in tandem with our key stakeholders, we can develop a future-ready network that supports our economic growth and the changing needs of our communities.”

In his role, Elliot Shaw is responsible for the development of strategy for England’s strategic road network, the company’s organisational transformation agenda, its analytical and economist functions and the relationships with key industry bodies, including the Office for Rail and Road and Transport Focus.

Before joining Highways England, Shaw was a civil servant at the Ministry of Justice and Department for Transport. Prior to this, he was a management consultant, working in Accenture’s UK and US strategy practices. He holds a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and has been a Public Policy Fellow at Cambridge University.

Highways England plays a crucial role in delivering a road network that hauliers and fleet operators, as well as the wider public, rely on,” commented Nadeem Raza, Chief Executive Officer at Microlise. “Technology is playing an ever-increasing role in the management of major roads, and I am looking forward to learning more about Highways England’s vision for our strategic road network.”

As the UK road transport’s premier conference, the free-to-attend Microlise Transport Conference once again features an outstanding line-up of speakers from across the sector. Represented within the agenda are Google Cloud, DVSA, The Office of the Traffic Commissioner, the Road Haulage and Logistics All-Party, Unite the Union, MAN Truck & Bus GmbH and the Government Office for Science.

Delegates can also access four workshop programmes, visit approximately fifty sponsor and exhibitor stands and network with over 1,000 transport professionals.

Further information is available at the conference website at www.microliseconference.com, where those wishing to attend can register their place.
