As the lockdown eases and Brits return to greater movement, a UK medical company is focused on assisting driver-led businesses curtail the spread of Covid-19 and protect their drivers. Doctor Driver Assessment is now offering haulage, taxi, shipping and other transport services the opportunity to purchase Antigen and Antibody tests for their teams, helping staff be confident in their return to work.

Essential workers are still essential after the lockdown eases,” says Dr Patience Annan, CEO at Doctor Driver Assessment. “And with more people returning to work and traveling domestically, drivers of all types will continue to keep Britain moving, putting them at risk through greater exposure to other people.”

Continues Dr Annan: “By providing Covid-19 tests in bulk for companies to offer their teams, it allows drivers to know if they have either had the virus and recovered, or currently have it and need to self-isolate. We understand how important it is for companies to ensure their driver employees are confident in their return to work. In addition to the hygiene and work environment practices companies have implemented, these home kits offer another tool in the fight to put the brakes on this infection.”

The Covid-19 Total Antibody Test Kit checks for previous infection and is best conducted 14 days post infection or once symptoms have resolved. It notifies drivers if they have previously been exposed to the infection by gauging if they have developed an immune response. The kit includes all items needed for testing, with the recipient needing to make an appointment with a phlebotomist, before mailing the test to a lab for analysis, with results received just 24 to 72 hours later.

The Covid-19 PCR (swab) Test Kit is also available, with samples self-collected via nasal and throat swabs. Results are emailed within 2 to 5 working days.

Doctor Driver Assessment PCR tests can be conducted in the privacy of the employee’s own space – whether that be at home or the workplace, whilst the Antibody test can be conducted at a phlebotomy service or companies may book bulk testing for their staff with Doctor Driver Assessment’s phlebotomists*.

By the very nature of their job, drivers are always on the move, making it difficult to schedule time to attend shared testing centres,” highlights Dr Annan. “The ability to have an ‘at home’ test for Covid-19 gives them greater flexibility to be tested and more power over managing their health, whilst companies can arrange for the Antibody tests to be conducted with our medical team at a convenient, central location or facilitated individually with local phlebotomists.”

Continues Dr Annan: “We have a history of working closely with the driver community and transport industry, and are delighted to be able to offer these tests alongside our other medical services, promoting safety and efficiency for these essential workers.”

Both tests are conducted in partnership with UKAS accredited laboratories, each of which is CQC registered and committed to not taking capacity from NHS testing. As with any medical testing, confidentiality is paramount to the Doctor Driver Assessment process. Results are emailed directly to the individual tested, with Doctor Driver Assessment available to assist should the individual have any queries about the results.
