Many people are suffering financially at the moment and one thing that they are doing as they are now working from home is selling their cars. Selling your car doesn’t just mean you’ll get some money from the sale but you will also save money on the running costs – the petrol each week, the insurance, the tax, the repairs and maintenance. Alternatively, you might just be looking to sell your car to buy yourself a new one, in which case you’ll still want the best price possible for your car. So, how can you get this and get your car ready to sell?

Choose How To Sell

There are so many ways to sell your car these days which on the one hand makes it really easy to do, but on the other hand it might be overwhelming and confusing to have so much choice. You could sell your car privately, you could trade it in as a part-exchange deal, you could sell it for parts? Or sell it instantly with a company that buys your car off you there and then.  Whichever option you go for, make sure you have done your research and you know the pros and cons of each, you know how much money you are likely to get for it and you know the requirements for the sale. For example, if you’re selling your car for parts then there’s no point making it look good or getting the tires pumped up. Other ways of selling it don’t require you even to clean it, so don’t waste time, just do what needs to be done.

Clean your car

When people are looking for used cars, they still want to see them at their best so if you are selling your car privately then make a good impression and show them the car at its best. You could have it professionally valeted or clean it yourself, but either way, make it look as good as new and desirable to potential buyers. Don’t forget to clear out the glove box and the door bins too.

Check Everything is Working

If you’re selling the car for partsor getting rid of it because it doesn’t work any more then don’t worry about fixing the car, but it’s goor to know what works and what doesn’t. But if you’re selling the car as a working car then make sure it is, check that all the lights, warning symbols, and seatbelts are fine and if you’re not sure you have it all covered then get a professional to do this for you.

Check the paperwork

When you sell a car you must include the paperwork that goes with it. You will need the logbook, V5 Certificate, spare keys, service history documentation, and MOT certificates. Make sure that you have these and that they are fully up to date. Potential buyers will need to see them as they are just as important as checking the car itself.
