As the Irish economy continues to nosedive, it has emerged that HGV traffic passing through the Dublin Port Tunnel has been significantly reduced.
HGV traffic has dropped by more than 40 per cent since in the past two years.
The number of HGVs passing through the tunnel has dropped by 42 per cent, down from a peak of more than 5,000 vehicles a day, when the tunnel opened in August 2007.
Figures just released show that just over 3,000 trucks per day are using the tunnel,
