Premier pasty maker Ginsters has come up with its latest recipe for success in the shape of a new fleet of Euro 5 Mercedes Sprinters.

Sprinter_313CDI_Ginsters_1_jpgMercedes-Benz was the first van manufacturer to achieve the latest round of tough EU emissions limits, which came into force on 1st October. As well as being cleaner, Euro 5 Sprinters are smoother, quieter and more powerful, and significantly cheaper to run.

South coast dealer Pentagon Commercials is supplying another 25 Sprinters to Ginsters. All are 313CDI chassis cab models and powered by the 129hp variant of the all-new 2.1-litre, OM651 four-cylinder common rail turbodiesel engine.

The 313CDI is 15 per cent more fuel-efficient than the popular 311CDI it replaces, which equates to an extra 4.5 miles per gallon. CO2 emissions are cut by 13 per cent, while power and torque are up by approximately 10 per cent.

Like Ginsters’ previous Mercedes, its new vans are fitted with insulated bodies by Solomon Commercials, of Rossendale, Lancashire, and Carrier refrigeration units. One of the UK’s top food brands, Ginsters is renowned for its traditional pasties, savoury slices, sausage rolls and pies. The company is based in Callington, Cornwall, and with the support of its Warwickshire-based logistics partner

Petit Forestier, supplies thousands of retailers nationwide, from 15 regional sales offices.

Ginsters bought its first 38 Mercedes vans last year. Within the next few weeks half of the vehicles on its 170-strong delivery fleet will wear three-pointed stars.

Buyer Gary Bound enthuses: “Our first Sprinters are now coming up to 18 months old and compared to the vehicles we were using previously they have been superbly reliable, with very little ‘downtime’ and minimal spares usage.
