CECRA’s first Truck Dealer Day

October 22, 2012

The European Council for Motor Trade and Repairs (CECRA) held its first Truck Dealer Day in Brussels last Thursday.

The conference, featuring the European Commission’s White Paper and The Future of the commercial and industrial vehicles distribution and after-market’ as central themes, turned out to be an interesting event.

During the meeting, moderated by Willy De Backer, interesting presentations were delivered by the EU’s representative of Vice-President Kallas, Commissioner of Transport, ACEA’s Secretary General Ivan Hodac and Thomas Chieux, ICDP’s Director.

After the opening remarks from Jean-Paul Bailly, CECRA’s president, Richard Moraud, president of the Commercial and Industrial Division, and Bernard Lycke, Director General of CECRA, Mr Keir Fitch, Deputy Head of Cabinet Siim Kallas presented the EC’s vision of the White Paper’s strategy.

This aims at preserving our mobility while reducing the environmental and social costs linked to it: climate change, oil dependence, pollution, congestion, and accidents.

Keir Fitch said: “Three measures in particular are needed to tackle these challenges: we need to achieve a genuine transport internal market, promote innovation and develop the trans-European network. The White Paper has accordingly proposed 40 concrete initiatives.”
