European News:

R Matthews builds with Canter

September 11, 2009

Outstanding reliability and a market-leading four-tonne payload brought Cardiff-based R Matthews Construction back to local dealer Euro Commercials for its fourth 7.5-tonne Mitsubishi Fuso Canter.RMC

The latest 7C15 has an insulated steel tipping body by Cardiff Truck & Bus. It has lined up alongside R Matthews’ three previous 7.5-tonne Canter tippers, all of which are 7C15D models – the D denotes the fact that they have Double cabs.

The civil engineering, groundworks and building projects company also took delivery recently of a 3.5-tonne Canter 3C13, an ex-Euro demonstrator, which is fitted with a tipping body by TGS Coachworks, of Bristol.

R Matthews Construction has been contracting all over the country for the last 15 years. It works across a wide range of sectors: recent projects have entailed the redevelopment of car parks at several Welsh railway stations and the laying of three kilometers of fibre-optic ducting for Cardiff City Council, while it has also just begun construction work on a development of mews homes at Llandaff.

Managing Director Bob Matthews says: “Our Canters are multi-purpose vehicles and fantastically reliable – even through the winter, one turn of the key is all that’s needed and off they go.

“They’re very well built too, which is important because they get plenty of wear. And we can get a full four tones on the back of the 7.5-tonners – that’s a fair bit more than any other vehicle of this size will carry.”

The Double-cabbed Canters ferry work crews, their tools and materials between jobs, while the latest 7C15 is being used to collect split loads of aggregates from quarries.

Euro Commercials is best-known as a Mercedes-Benz dealer but like the German manufacturer’s other franchised representatives in mainland Britain, is also responsible for sales and support of the popular Mitsubishi Fuso Canter light truck range.
