Auto glazing specialist Robbie Cloy reckons the Mercedes- Benz Vito is a ‘glass act’ – which explains why he has just replaced four older models with new ones from Dumfries dealer Ciceley Commercials.
The vans wear the colours of fast-growing National Windscreens, and are used by mobile technicians attending customers’ homes and business addresses, or undertaking emergency windscreen repairs and replacements at the roadside. They will each cover some 35,000 miles a year.
Two of the new Long-bodied Vito 109CDIs work from the National Windscreens depot at Brownrigg Loaning, Dumfries, a stone’s throw from Ciceley’s own premises. The others are based at the company’s depot in Anson Street, Glasgow. Cloy also operates National Windscreens businesses in Carlisle, Edinburgh and Workington.
“I’ve been running Vitos for nine years now, and they’ve always been very reliable,” he confirms. “The length and relatively low level floor make them ideally suited to our work, while they’re also very popular with our mobile technicians, who appreciate the extra comfort they offer in comparison to other van models.”
He added: “In my experience you pay a bit more ‘up front’ for Mercedes vans, but with their lower ‘whole life’ operating costs they invariably work out to be excellent value in the long run.”
