Slip road upgrades on M53

September 9, 2010

The scheme at four pedestrian crossing points on the A41 Chester Road slip roads will take just under three weeks to complete. It will include lowering kerbs to help wheelchair users, widening footpaths and the installation of tactile paving for the visually impaired.

Work will be carried out overnight between 10pm and 5am, Monday to Friday to keep disruption to motorists to a minimum. Pedestrians will be directed to other crossing places while the work is underway. Traffic for Junction 5 southbound should follow diversions to Junction 7.

Mark Mosley, Highways Agency project sponsor, said: “We are pleased to be carrying out this work which will be of especial help to the visually impaired and people using wheelchairs. It is part of our commitment to provide these facilities as a result of the Disability Discrimination Act.

“The work has been planned to avoid disruption but both drivers and pedestrians should take extra care when in the area.”
