Clugston Distribution Services has taken delivery of five new Renault Premium 460.23 mini-midlift tractor units, with an additional three trucks on order through Renault Trucks distributor Thompson Commercials Hull.
In a new venture for the company the trucks all pull 44 tonne GCW, 6 compartment fuel tanker trailers with pump discharge capability, and are the first to join Clugston Distribution Services’ new fuel logistics service. The lightweight mini-midlift trucks, which were converted in conjunction with Thompson Commercials, weigh in at half a tonne lighter than a standard mid-lift tractor unit at 7,680kg for maximum payload.
The Renault Premiums will be used for the transportation of liquid fuel for a number of high profile customers from its Humber based location. Nigel Graham, Fleet Services Manager, Clugston Distribution Services, says: “As a Renault Trucks approved repairer we know the trucks and believe that Renault Premium offers the best overall fuel performance and whole life operating cost. We have taken 17 new Renault Premiums this year which will create a combined fleet of over 50 Renaults and I can honestly say that in terms of fuel performance they are the best we’ve ever had on our fleet, running at an average of 9mpg across all sectors of our current fleet.”
He continues: “The new mini-midlifts are the first trucks for this particular type of work. We had payload issues on standard tractor units so we had them to achieve a better tail weight that meets our customers’ payload requirements.”
Clugston Distribution Services launched its fuel transportation service on 18 April this year at FPS EXPO 2012, the annual event for the oil distribution industry in Harrogate.
“The new venture is doing really well” says Nigel Graham. “Demand is currently very encouraging and we are currently operating day and night. We have ordered three more Renault Premium mini-midlifts to ensure we continue to meet customer expectations.”
Clugston Distribution is celebrating its 75th year in business this year and is in the process of changing its fleet livery to a fresh, modern design.
