New truck registrations remained stable in August, while the overall commercial vehicle market was down 10.2 per cent to 11,716 registrations, with the rolling year figure up 1.6 per cent to 294,886.
Truck registrations for the month remained stable at 2,408 units, while the rolling year figure is up 20.9 per cent to 47,766 units.
Van registrations were down 12.5 per cent to 9,308 units in August, while the rolling year figure was down 1.4 per cent, to 247,120 registrations.
Trucks have performed well throughout 2012 with volumes up 20 per ent for the year-to-date, but vans have struggled and look set to end the year almost 10 per cent behind last year’s levels,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive.
“Last year we saw heavy trucks leading recovery, now medium-weight trucks are performing well, up 40 per ent for the year so far. The economic situation in Europe and around the world is far from certain, but if business and buyer confidence improves, we’d anticipate the van market recovering in 2013.”
