European News:

RAC proposes motorway sell off

August 26, 2009

The RAC Foundation has called for a rethink of how Britain’s motorways and trunk road are maintained and financed.

The Foundation has suggested that the Highways Agency could be sold off to the private sector, raising £85 billion in the process.

Under the RAC blueprint motorists would pay tolls to use the motorways, or the independent agency would receive a proportion of the money raised from vehicle excise or fuel duty.
