Operation Stack swings into gear

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Snow forced Britain’s biggest port to close yesterday as Operation Stack swung into gear.
Officials at Felixstowe said the snow and sleet made quayside conditions very difficult.

“Due to the adverse weather conditions affecting operations, the haulier holding areas on port are full and Operation Stack to temporarily hold vehicles on the old A45 at Levington are in place,” said a port spokesman.

Snowstorms are predicted to sweep across the region again today, with no let up to the cold snap in sight.
