Garn Transport opts for Scania

January 7, 2010

Spalding-based Garn Transport Limited has recently taken delivery of eight Topline-cabbed Scania R440 LA6x2/4MNA twin-steer tractor units for use on its UK-wide distribution operations.

Garn Tsp Scania_edited-1The early success of these trucks in fuel and performance trials has led the company to order a further 25 units for delivery during the spring and summer of 2010.  All vehicles are being supplied by Scania (Great Britain) Limited’s Spalding depot on full five year contract hire agreements.

Equipped with Scania Opticruise, Scania’s automated gearchanging system, the eight trucks taken during 2009 were the first Euro 5 Scania vehicles taken by Garn Transport.  “I find the combination of Scania Opticruise and Euro 5 extremely appealing and the fuel returns to date have certainly been impressive,” comments Managing Director Richard Garn.  “The additional 25 trucks will be new R-series models featuring the new fully automated two-pedal Scania Opticruise systems, so we are now looking forward to seeing further operational benefits arising as a result.”

Richard Garn adds that aftersales support was a key factor in his decision to once again opt for Scania: “The thing about Scania is that you know the backup will always be there, which is obviously an important point for any nationwide operator.

“Also, our trucks are out for three or four nights a week, so the comfort of the cab is another factor in the equation.  We know our drivers are happy with their vehicles and appreciate the space afforded by the Scania Topline cab.”

Garn Transport’s eight 2009 vehicles were the first Scania trucks to appear in the company’s new livery.  These are now in service on the firm’s general haulage operations, including fulfilling its distribution commitments as a member company of the Wisbech Roadways consortium.
